Staff Information

 







Staff Orientation: Staff orientation is packed full of activities to help you get to know your fellow staff members, counselor trainings, activity trainings and to familiarize you with our camp site and procedures. Also, time off is limited so we suggest you are prepared for camp when you arrive for staff orientation.

 

Location: Mountain Camp Woodside is located in Portola Valley, CA. Camp is approximately 40 miles south of San Francisco and 45 miles north of Santa Cruz.

 

Living Arrangements: Resident Camp counseling staff live in dorm rooms with either other staff members or campers. The camp dorms have bathroom and shower facilities, laundry and common areas. You will sleep in a bed or bunk bed provided by camp. You will need to bring linens or a sleeping bag and pillow.

 

Transportation to camp: Camp will provide shuttles from the San Francisco Airport the day before staff training. Please contact the office to arrange transportation.

 

Transportation at camp: Summer staff members are responsible for providing their own transportation during time off.

 

Time Off:

Daily: Our day consists of several activity periods each about one hour. Resident Camp staff members are scheduled to have one of these periods off. Day Camp staff members work throughout the day. These time periods are ideal for taking advantage of our local workout facilities (swimming, biking, running, using the gym, using computers, writing letters, showering, taking a nap, etc.). In addition to your period off, you will receive an occasional night off as well.

 

Weekly: Resident Camp staff members receive one day off each week. Our day off typically begins at 6:00pm and ends at 4:00pm the next day. We are lucky to be about an hour away from both San Francisco and Santa Cruz.

We hire just enough counselors for the number of campers that we have enrolled so we do not have the capabilty of accomodating days off.  Unfortunately, no matter how much fun that family vacation that you take every year is, we just are not set up to cover counselos missing any days.  If you are interested in working at our camp, please be prepared to be at camp for the duration of our camp season.

Food: Staff and Campers will be provided with three meals a day plus a snack. Breakfast is typically a hot option with a cereal bar, toast, yogurt and fresh fruit. Lunch and Dinner have a hot option with a salad bar and a sandwich table. There are vegetarian options available, however, we cannot accommodate any other dietary restrictions. You are welcome to bring your own food to camp and it will be stored in the staff refrigerator.

 

Personal Cell phones: Staff members may only use personal phones during their time off and never around campers.

 

Computer Access: There is one staff computer available for use. Staff members are welcome to bring personal computers to camp but computers may only be used during time off and never around campers. Camp uses the wireless at the Woodside Priory School. In order for your computer to use the wireless, you must agree to the school's internet policies and have up-to-date virus protection for your computer.

 

Laundry: Mountain Camp Woodside has washing machines available in the dorms.

 

Weather: Although most of the summer our temperature stays between 60 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, it can be hotter and colder on occasion. Please plan on packing for a variety of weather conditions.

 

Evening Program: Every night, campers and counselors participate in an evening program activity. These include activities such as Pool Party, Dance, Capture the Flag, Karaoke, etc. Staff members are assigned responsibilities during evening program and will help plan and perform several evening programs each session.

 

Curfew: The curfew for all of our summer staff is 11:00pm (Trust us, you'll be tired).

 

Personal Belongings: Please be reminded that you are living in close quarters with campers ranging in age from 7-15. Most of your belongings will be in the dorms with you and Mountain Camp Woodside is not liable for any lost or stolen property. Staff are able to put small valuables (passports, plane tickets, cash, etc.) in our office lock box and may store prescription medications in our office.

 

Visitors: Due to security concerns, Mountain Camp Woodside does not allow summer staff to have visitors while camp is in session.

 

Alcohol, Tobacco, Drug Policy: Smoking is not permitted on camp property. The use of any controlled substances is absolutely prohibited while you are a staff member at Mountain Camp Woodside. Absolutely NO alcoholic beverages may be brought onto camp property and no one is to return to camp under the influence.

 

Checks: Summer staff will be paid after each two weeks of camp.
